10/20/2012 5:00 pm

Jan Brett visits Corvallis for a talk about her newest book for children, Mossy. This event is sponsored by the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, and will be held at Corvallis High School.

In Mossy, Dr. Carolina, a biologist, and her niece,Tory, spot an amazing turtle just as Mossy meets Scoot for the first time and it is love at first sight. But Mossy finds herself scooped up and taken to Dr. Carolina’s small Edwardian natural history museum. Despite becoming the center of attention loved by the visitors, Mossy misses her home and longs to return to Scoot.

It is Tory who realizes how sad Mossy is so Dr. Carolina finds a way to keep Mossy’s spirit alive at the museum with the help of two artist friends, Flora and Fauna.

This is a sweet and engaging story which subtly shows that animals belong in their naturalhabitats. Fans young and old will pour over the colorful paintings of Mill Pond and the elegantnatural history museum along with lush borders of both the natural world and the historicEdwardian period.
