This novel is a quick read but deeply moving. If you like historical fiction and you like art, you will enjoy this book. The story traces back through time the life of an "unknown" painting by the Dutch master Vermeer. In each of the eight stories, the painting moves in and out of the lives of the different owners, culminating with the artist in the 17th century Holland. This is a beautifully written novel that simplifies the power of art through the lens of ordinary lives.
