The Only Woman in the Room:
Why Science Is Still a Boys' Club

Friday, October 21, 2016
OSU Valley Library
7:30 pm

Named one of the notable nonfiction books of 2015 by The Washington Post, The Only Woman in the Room is a bracingly honest exploration of why there are still so few women in the hard sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computer science. Author Eileen Pollack shows us the struggles women in the sciences have been hesitant to admit, and provides hope for changing attitudes and behaviors in ways that could bring far more women into fields in which even today they remain seriously underrepresented.

Grass Roots will be selling books at this event.

Sponsored by the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, The School of Writing, Literature, and Film, OSU Libraries & Press, Oregon State ADVANCE, and The College of Liberal Arts.

Chinook and Chanterelle

Sunday, October 23, 2016
Grass Roots Books and Music
7:00 pm

Through a Green Lens presents a sampling of Pyle’s work over fifty years, from an essay written in 1965 to a book foreword written in 2015. Culled from notable magazines and contributions to edited collections, these essays range across broad topical, geographic, and textual territory. Chinook & Chanterelle is Pyle’s second full-length book of poetry, rich in natural images, stories, and indelible episodes from the whole world around us.

*The authors will be reading and signing books at this event. Co-sponsored by the Spring Creek Project.
